Media Codes and Conventions

Ah, short days. We didn’t get very far in this lesson yesterday, so we’ll pick up where we left off.

You read “Media Codes and Conventions”.

Now, we will use Hypothes.is to make a note:

  • Go to “Media Codes and Conventions”
  • Go to your account and create a new group called “My annotations”
  • Annotate the article in your private group
  • Share the link with me via the assignment submission page.
    • SEE LEARNING TOOLS IN ONENOTE CONTENT LIBRARY TO SEE HOW TO SHARE A PRIVATE LINK

NOTE MAKING TIPS

  • Use keywords/phrases
  • Find places to paraphrase
  • Find places to summarize
  • Identify key quotes
  • Add your thinking into your notes
  • Add the citation for the source (use citation machine)

At the end of the blog, there is a quiz. We will work on the quiz for 10 minutes today. We will come back to it another day.

At your tables, view the collaboration page called “Understanding Media Forms, Conventions, and Techniques”. I’ve added some information for the news site CBC news. View the site to identify other details you can add. Then go to the APTN news site. What is the same? What is different?

Together, complete the chart. (20m)

GO

Make a copy of the chart below (highlighted and hyperlinked). Copy and paste your work from the Collaboration space into the chart, if you would like the examples in front of you.

Now, on your own, complete the chart for a podcast.
